Substation Project Lead/Engineer

Our client, a leading multinational engineering firm in the power industry, is seeking a highly skilled Substation Project Lead/Engineer to join its Substation Engineering team in the Columbus area. This role offers a hybrid work environment, making it ideal for candidates who live within commuting distance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Project Management: Take charge of detailed design projects for medium to extra-high voltage substations, ensuring successful delivery from concept to completion.
  • Technical Oversight: Lead the development of one-line diagrams, SCADA systems, physical layouts, and equipment selection, guaranteeing technical excellence in all designs.
  • Quality and Compliance: Ensure that all projects meet the highest standards of quality, adhere to schedules, and stay within budgetary constraints.
  • Client Relations: Manage and nurture client relationships, serving as the primary point of contact and ensuring their needs and expectations are met.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct rigorous QA/QC reviews to maintain the integrity and reliability of all project deliverables.
  • Occasional Travel: Be prepared for occasional travel to project sites or client meetings as required.

Qualifications:

  • Technical Expertise: Extensive experience in substation design for voltages ranging from 15kV to 138kV, with a deep understanding of IEEE/ANSI standards.
  • Project Leadership: A proven track record of successfully leading multiple concurrent projects, demonstrating strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, essential for effective collaboration and client interaction.
  • Work Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Design Experience: Experience with higher voltage substation design, specifically in the 230kV to 500kV range, is highly desirable.
  • Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field.
  • Extensive Experience: Over 10 years of hands-on experience in substation design, with a history of managing small project teams.
  • Consulting Background: Ideal candidates will have experience working in an engineering consulting firm, bringing a broad perspective and specialized knowledge to the role.
